Chester travel to Wrexham this Sunday for the 156th Cross-Border Derby at the Racecourse Ground.
Marcus Bignot’s side will be hoping to bounce back from Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Dover Athletic, and were boosted by the signing of midfielder Karl Cunningham who joined the club on non-contract terms this week.
Jordan Chapell, Liam Davies and Paul Turnbull all parted company with the Blues midweek, so the addition of the 24-year-old former Lincoln player boosts Bignot’s options heading into the game.
The Red Dragons are unbeaten in their previous 12 encounters, however, nine of these games ended in draws, and has seen Wrexham slip down the table. The side haven’t lost in the league at the Racecourse since the opening day of the season.
Last time out, Dean Keates’ side drew 2-2 with Aldershot Town. Scott Quigley bagged a brace for the home side, but the Shots came from behind twice to claim a point.
Wrexham haven’t played in two weeks heading into the Derby, as their tie last week with Ebbsfleet United was called off.
What The Gaffer Said
Crossing The Divide
Three former Blues players feature in Wrexham’s regular starting line up this season.
After a stunted start to his Wrexham career, Chris Holroyd picked up the pace and remains top scorer with 13 goals so far this season.
Chester City youth team graduate and former professional for the Blues, Kevin Roberts, has staked his claim as one of the first names on the team sheet at the Racecourse. Yet to score for the Red Dragons, Roberts netted a stunning volley for the Blues in a 2-2 Cross-Border Derby draw in 2007.
Paul Rutherford, who also came through the ranks at Chester City, made his professional debut for Chester back in 2005 against Cambridge United in the Football League Trophy.
Dominic Vose is the only Blues player to have appeared for Wrexham in recent years. The 24-year-old joined the North Wales-based club in 2015, but left in the following January transfer window for League One side Scunthorpe United.
