PREVIEW | FC Halifax Town v Chester
The Blues make the trip across the Pennines to visit FC Halifax Town at the MBi Shay Stadium tomorrow – in their last game before Christmas.
Marcus Bignot’s men were victorious on their previous outing in the National League, overcoming strugglers Solihull Moors at the Swansway Chester Stadium. Ross Hannah’s effort as the encounter was drawing to a close secured a vital three points.
Blues will be looking to make it three wins out of three though, after overcoming AFC Fylde in the FA Trophy last weekend on penalties. Andy Halls’ winning spot kick in the shoot out ensured the Blues set up a tie with Essex-based outfit East Thurrock United.
As for Halifax, Manager Billy Heath masterminded a superb victory over promotion chasing Aldershot Town in their last National League fixture. Scott McManus netted the only goal of the game at the EBB Stadium to complete their first away win since September.
Halifax also announced the addition of former Huddersfield and Oxford United centre midfielder Michael Collins last week – and in fact played an influential role in his side’s win over the Shots.
The Shaymen find themselves sitting in 16th place – with no games in hand over their nearest rivals, and still in with a chance of impressing in the FA Trophy, after their tie with Macclesfield Town as postponed for a second time on Monday night.
ONE TO WATCH
Matty Brown – Defender
We had to go with the former Blues skipper…
Brown was given the captain’s armband by former boss Steve Burr during his eighteen-month stint at the Swansway – and has since gone on to prove himself as a key leader in the Shaymen’s side.
The 27-year old looks to have got the better of his injury problems, which were ever present during his time in West Cheshire.
Although he is not your typical playmaker, or goalscorer, Brown is definitely a player Blues strikers should look to get the better of.
Kick off at the MBi Shay Stadium tomorrow is 3pm.
