Chester FC take on Aston Villa this Saturday at the Exacta Stadium, and the fixture is bound to stir up some memories from the 1974-75 League Cup run that saw The Seals get to the Semi-Finals, where they were beaten over two legs by The Villains.
We've been asking for your 'Chester FC Experience' and today we feature a couple of stories from Blues fans, firstly Mark Foster tells us his Aston Villa match memories...
Mark wrote, "It was an amazing time to be a Chester fan, we'd had a great deal of goals scored in the 60s but maybe not the success, so to see the lads go on a run like they did in 1974 was incredible really, getting to the League Cup Semi-Finals - beating power clubs like League Champions Leeds & Newcastle United along the way, it just wouldn't happen now would it?"
"I remember the atmosphere at Sealand Road was one of the best I'd been in, knowing you were just so close to getting to watch Chester at Wembley, and obviously Villa were a great side in those days, so everyone was up for it"
"I recall the goals going in, and being lost amongst a sea of people celebrating, and in the end a 2-2 draw was a great result to take to Villa Park for the 2nd Leg."
"The 2nd Leg was just as eventful, with Chester almost upsetting the odds again, and then a cruel blow was dealt by Villa as they went 3-2 up, and this time we couldn't drag it back, but I was so so proud that night of what Chester had achieved, and I still relive it today, and goes down as one of the greatest times being a Chester fan, hopefully sometime in the future we'll have a similar experience to talk about, although saying that the experience at Garforth was something to behold to!"
Chester fan Paul Holmes also got in touch to tell us his 'Chester FC Experience' too, which also centred on the Aston Villa game in the same Cup run...
"My main memory goes back to the league cup run of 74/75. My uncle Cyril got me into the Leeds, Newcastle & Villa games at home free! He knew the man on the gate, Harry Dodd. We went to Villa away and my mum wrote to school saying I had a dentist appointment to get me out early."
"At the end of that season there was a civic reception, which Harry Dodd went to, and I have in my possession a signed menu card of all the team which he got for me."
