Ryan Lloyd’s quick instincts earned the Blues another three points today.
His 26th minute rebound from an Elliott Durrell missed penalty saw Chester make it seven games unbeaten and seven clean sheets in a row.
Durrell almost caught the keeper napping inside five minutes with a whipped free kick – but Moore did well to claw it away.
It was a quiet affair – as the Blues went beyond 600 minutes without conceding a goal – before they were awarded a penalty after Craig Mahon was tripped inside the box.
Durrell stepped up – but his spot kick was superbly pushed away by Brendan Moore; fortunately for the Blues Ryan Lloyd was on hand to slot home the rebound.
The visitors looked to respond – but Damon Lathope fizzed a shot just wide of Roberts’ near post from range.
But the Blues, who dispatched Dover 5-0 in their last home game, were ever a threat going forward; with Durrell whipping one just wide following good work from James Akintunde.
Luke Young almost broke the clean sheet resistance on the stroke of half time – but Roberts made a smart stop from his header.
The away side looked strong after the break – with Nathan Blissett looping a header wide from a dangerous Young corner.
At the other end, Akintunde had two efforts cleared off the line in quick succession after Mahon had played him through on goal.
Kane Richards replaced the Blues forward moments later – and it was the sub who had the next chance; heading straight at Moore from a back post corner.
The quick forward was in the thick of it again, as his reverse pass found Alabi – but the Blues number nine fired wide.
Moments later, another sub in the form of Jordan Chapell was denied by the keeper after a surging run forward.
But the Gulls were putting on pressure in the last quarter of an hour, as Liam Roberts made an outstanding one handed save to deny Lathrope – tipping the ball onto the crossbar.
Back up the other end, the livewire Richards fired a shot just beyond the post; before the keeper denied Chapell and Alabi in quick succession.
Nevertheless, Jon McCarthy’s men held on for another superb victory.
