Chester 2 Guiseley 0

Chester recorded a comfortable home victory against bottom of the table Guiseley this evening.

Second half strikes from Kane Richards and Tom Shaw from the spot were enough to seal the points; with the visitors ending the game with nine men due to an injury and a red card to Will Hatfield.

The Blues started brightly; with Richards’ break down the left ending with a back post cross – but Maxted did well to deny Elliott Durrell from close range.

The winless visitors had an effort of their own inside the opening quarter of an hour, with Reece Webb-Foster going close from distance.

Craig Mahon was next to have an opportunity – volleying straight at the keeper following a spot of ‘head tennis’ inside the area.

Chester really should have taken the lead in the 23rd minute when Shaw’s blocked shot floored the keeper – and Lloyd hit the post with the follow up; before Richards fired straight at Maxted with the rebound.

Guiseley had chances as the half creeped towards its close; Worsnop doing well to deny Hatfield before Palmer headed over from the resulting corner.

The Blues started the second half the livelier though, and Shaw saw his free kick well stopped by the keeper as he drilled his effort underneath the wall.

Just a matter of minutes later, Jon McCarthy’s men had the lead.

James Akintunde did all the work down the left and found a cutback; which enabled Richards to sidefoot home.

The Blues striker had a chance to double his tally for the night just four minutes later, but the keeper got down well to stop his firm shot.

But soon after it was two – as Johnny Hunt was felled inside the area.

Up stepped Captain Tom Shaw – and he dispatched the spot kick.

The visitors should have halved the deficit when Purver found sub Michael Rankine, but the big frontman flashed his shot wide of the far post.

It got worse for the away team late on as they saw Will Hatfield dismissed for a second bookable offence – fouling Richards.
