A late rally was not enough for the Blues today, as they were edged out by high flying Forest Green.
Elliott Durrell’s late goal gave Chester hope; but strikes from Liam Noble and Darren Carter got the away side the spoils.
It was the visitors who had the first chance, Moore heading over from Liam Noble’s vicious free kick delivery.
But the Blues were looking steady from the start, Ryan Astles glancing wide from Durrell’s cross.
Nevertheless, Forest Green took the lead on 24 minutes, as Liam Noble’s whipped free kick appeared to evade everyone and hit the back of the net.
It should have been two when the away side’s cleverly worked corner routine found Moore – but he somehow skied it from a matter of yards.
Chester had chances of their own though – Durrell’s stinging 20 yard free kick was clawed away by Russell as half time approached.
Then, after the break, Richards smashed over from inside the area; with the angle too tight to hit the net.
But Rovers extended their advantage on 52 minutes – as Darren Carter finished beautifully from outside the box after a move that contained a large amount of passes.
Worsnop had to save well from Matt Tubbs and Marsh-Brown in succession – as the visitors were looking to extend the advantage.
Chester were hanging in there – and managed to make it a tense finale when Player of the Month Elliott Durrell lashed the ball home after a superb turn.
The Blues were up for it – and almost levelled as Hudson beat the keeper to the ball – but it was headed off the line by a Forest Green defender.
