Woking 3 Chester 1

The Blues succumbed to another away day defeat this afternoon – going down to Woking who secured their first victory of the season.

Ryan Lloyd had levelled the Blues up following Murtagh’s opener for the Cards – before Joey Jones and Gozie Ugwu sealed the points for Garry Hill’s men.

It was a lively start to yet another Chester match – following Saturday’s 4-0 win over Sutton.

First, Tom Shaw drilled an effort wide from the edge of the box; before Woking worked their way back into the game with Kretzchmar heading over and Worsnop almost spilling Jake Caprice’s shot inside the opening ten minutes.

But the deadlock was broken by the hosts on 17 minutes.

It was a superb left footed by strike by Kieran Murtagh – finding the bottom corner from 25 yards.

The Blues had fallen behind early on away from home – much like Boreham Wood – but they did respond well on this occasion and carved out a chance just five minutes later; Hudson’s header denied by Poke from Lloyd’s corner.

Minutes later, the crossbar saved Woking from James Alabi’s header, but Ryan Lloyd wouldn’t be denied during the next phase of play as he equalised.

The Port Vale loanee found the net with a superb glancing header from Johnny Hunt’s cross.

Nevertheless, Chester switched off and were behind again just two minutes later; as Joey Jones headed home from a cross by Kretzschmar.

Following a double change at the break, the Blues had a penalty appeal from Kane Richards turned down; but the hosts had control of the game.

Jones almost had a brace for Woking but Worsnop denied him – before Zak Ansah hit the side netting after an error by Ryan Astles.

Sam Hughes, on at the break, went close on two occasions with headers inside the box – before Woking looked to have sealed the win on 75 minutes.

Ugwu was the scorer, bundling home from a dangerous cross from the flank.
