Chester 4 Sutton United 0

Jon McCarthy’s men stormed to another convincing home victory this afternoon – putting four past newly promoted Sutton.

The visitors had made a superb start to life in the National League, but were second best here; as Blaine Hudson, Ryan Lloyd, Tom Shaw and Kane Richards opened their goalscoring accounts for the 2016/17 season.

Chester made a frenetic start to this encounter, with Shaw smashing the post within the first 60 seconds – before they took the lead on three minutes.

Elliott Durrell’s free kick was a peach – and it allowed Hudson to glance the ball home.

The dream start got better – as Lloyd made it a superb ‘second coming’ to the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium.

A quick counter attack saw Kane Richards ghost past a defender and shoot – and the Port Vale loanee could tap home the rebound after Worner had saved.

Sutton tried to muster a response, but Jon Worsnop was equal to Chris Dickson’s effort.

The visiting side were looking for a response as the second half began, and almost got it through Ryan Burge’s free kick – but Worsnop pulled off a superb one handed save.

Sutton made a triple change on the hour mark as they tried to reduce the deficit – and almost did when one of the changes, Nicky Bailey, fired just wide from Ross Stearn’s corner.

The game then had a large delay of around ten minutes following a serious injury to Theo Vassell – before sub Jordan Chapell’s skilful effort was tipped over the bar.

Chapell was involved in the build-up to the third – as he found Richards who was awarded a penalty inside the box following an apparent trip.

Shaw stepped up and the penalty squirmed into the bottom corner to make it three.

It was four in the first of ten minutes added time – as Horwood’s deflected short free kick found Richards who took his time and then smashed the ball home.
