AFC Telford 0 Chester 2

Chester eased into the second round of the FA Trophy with a comfortable win in Telford.

Ross Hannah's brace was enough, making it eight goals in his last eight games.

Lucas Dawson had the first meaningful effort of the game, his 30 yard free kick skidding just wide of the post.

Steve Burr’s side had to look to assert their higher league authority, with Ross Hannah coming close to finishing twice, before former Blue Sean Clancy hooked off the line directly from a Jordan Chapell corner – before they took the lead.

11 minutes had passed when Luke George set up Tom Shaw – his long range effort was fisted out to the unmarked Hannah who slammed the ball home from ten yards.

The basement side in the National League North did respond, but Jon Worsnop was equal to Sam Austin’s long range effort.

From the resulting corner, the Blues were scrambling to clear their lines – and Callum Hassan should have scored – but his acrobatic effort trickled wide from a matter of yards.

Up the other end Hattersley almost made it two when his seemingly harmless long range effort was spilled by the keeper Montgomery, but it fell just wide of the post.

Ian Sharps then headed over from the resulting Ryan Lloyd corner.

The game played the conditions for the next few minutes and both sides struggled to create – before the Blues hit a killer second goal.

Lloyd picked up a loose ball, threaded through an inch perfect pass for Hannah to skip beyond his marker and slam the ball into the top corner.

Jack Deaman should have halved the deficit with his first touch of the game – but he nodded over from close range from a Dawson set piece.

After the break a mistake from Ryan Higgins almost proved costly, but Worsnop palmed Ryan Rowe’s low effort just wide of the post.

Callum Hassan then missed a glorious opportunity after the hour but the keeper rescued the Blues again.

Loanee Lloyd then should have put the icing on the cake from Hannah’s cutback, but his turn and shot was punched away by Montgomery.

Worsnop did have to make some big second half saves, and stopped another from Hassan who was through on goal but denied by the Blues number one.
