Barrow 3 Chester FC 2

Chester were on the wrong end of a five goal thriller on Tuesday night at Holker Street.

Jordan Chapell gave the Blues the lead - before Andy Haworth and Andy Cook gave the Bluebirds the advantage. Tom Shaw levelled the scores but Niall Cowperthwaite's stunning strike proved to be the winner on 77 minutes.

It was an entertaining first half at Holker Street - with the hosts dominating the opening ten minutes.

Jon Worsnop was called into early action - tipping over from Howarth; before comfortably saving from Steve Williams.

Andy Cook volleyed over moments later - before the Blues started working their way back into the game, with Ben Heneghan heading wide a flicked on corner from close range.

Heneghan was denied moments later by Barrow keeper Dixon, before Grimes shot inches wide for the Bluebirds.

Nevertheless, the visiting Chester side took the lead with a classy goal just after the half hour mark.

On the counter, John Rooney slipped in Jordan Chapell behind the defence; and the winger kept his composure and slotted the ball home past the keeper.

However, the hosts hit back emphatically four minutes later; Howarth lashing the ball home after Symington had hit the post.

The home side completed their turnaround just 90 seconds into the second half - Andy Cook crashing the ball home following Chester's failure to clear Howarth's free kick.

The Blues were now chasing an equaliser; Tom Shaw blasting over the bar before the referee turned down a loud handball appeal following a blocked John Rooney effort.

Shaw did find the net on 73 minutes though, tapping home after Dixon spilled Rooney's right wing cross.

The equaliser seemed to shift the momentum back to Chester; but, from nowhere, Niall Cowperthwaite blasted home a long range effort; his strike proving to be the winning goal.
