Chester FC 0 Barnsley 3

There was to be no fairytale upset for Chester as League 1 Barnsley ran out comfortable winners on a cold and blustery night at the Swansway in the FA Cup Second Round.

Kane Hemmings opened the scoring early on, with an excellent Dale Jennings brace sealing the win in style for the visitors.

It was a scrappy start to the game with both sides looking to adjust to the terrible conditions - but it was the favorites who took the lead early on.

Barnsley worked the ball into the box and the loose ball dropped to Hemmings, who lashed the ball into the top of the net.

Moments later, the Reds could have doubled the lead.
Devante Cole skipped into the area and put it on a plate for Dale Jennings who - unmarked - put the ball onto his right foot and smashed it wide of the far post.

Chester were vulnerable to the counter attack, and were under pressure again when a John Rooney free kick was headed away and the visitors were only denied courtesy of Gareth Roberts' excellent last ditch tackle on Hemmings.

Jon Worsnop then made an excellent one handed save to deny Conor Hourihane's long range curling effort - and the Blues were lucky to go into the break just a goal down.

Chester regrouped at the break and had a good period of attacking play, with Kay sending in a dangerous cross and Heneghan bundling the ball wide - only to be flagged offside.

Nevertheless, Danny Wilson's side doubled their advantage just after the hour mark. Matty Brown committed himself and failed to get to a loose ball - leaving Chester exposed and Jennings with acres of time and space to sidefoot home into the far corner.

Hobson then had two good chances to restore hope - when he glanced wide of both posts on separate occasions from two John Rooney crosses.

Captain Brown then headed just wide - as Rooney sent in another dangerous cross.

Dale Jennings then secured the win in style when he weaved past three helpless Chester defenders before placing the ball into the corner. It was a fantastic goal that had a large proportion of the home crowd applauding.
