Chester's New Year started with a resounding defeat at Moss Lane where the Blues went down 4-1 and had Ibou Touray sent off to compound the misery.
Steve Burr named an unchanged line up from the win at FC Halifax with Gareth Roberts returning to the squad having served his 3 match suspension. Damien Reeves led the line for Altrincham having missed the game on Boxing Day.
It didn't take long for the hosts to get in front as with 10 minutes gone Nicky Clee fired home from the edge of the box after Jon Worsnop's clearance went straight to the Alty attacker. The Robins then doubled their lead just 7 minutes later when Reeves found the bottom right corner with a left footed shot and suddenly the afternoon was looking bleak for Chester.
On 28 minutes Chester were back in the game when John Rooney curled in a free kick from 30 yards out and hopes were raised that the Blues would make another comeback from a two goal deficit.
Bookings dominated the remainder of the first half with Kane Richards yellow carded for a foul on Shaun Denmore and just 90 seconds later Sean McConville found his way into the book after fouling Peter Cavanagh. Simon Richman was the third player to receive a yellow when was booked for a foul on Jamie Menagh.
Following the half time break, Craig Hobson was replaced by Tom Peers - fresh from his goal at Halifax - but just 13 minutes into the second half the Blues were reduced to ten men after Ibou Touray was given his marching orders for a foul on Nicky Clee.
Gareth Roberts then came on Jamie Menagh but that failed to plug the gap at the back and on 61 minutes Reeves grabbed his second goal of the afternoon finishing from six yards out.
Craig Mahon was then brought on for Sean McConville on 66 minutes but just a minute later the hosts extended their lead when Reeves found Nicky Clee who then fired in his second of the afternoon to make it 4-1.
So, a disappointing start for Chester on New Year's Day in 2015 and now attentions will turn to Sunday's home game against Braintree Town who will head to the Swansway on the back of a 3-0 home win over Dartford.
